2008 RECRUITING CLASSES ANNOUNCED A total of 77 student-athletes signed letters of intent to play at Great West Football Conference schools in 2008, the 5 members of the league released on Wednesday, February 6, the first days players can sign National Letters of Intent. Southern Utah and first-year head coach Ed Lamb signed a league-high 17 players on the first day, while Cal Poly, which finished 7-4 overall in 2007, signed 16. Heading into its fifth year, the Great West has been rated among the top Football Championship Subdivision teams for the first four years of existence. But the league will have a new look in 2008 with two new teams entering the conference lineup - the University of North Dakota and the University of South Dakota - to take the place of the departed North Dakota State and South Dakota State. The Coyotes and the Fighting Sioux have both advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs within the last three years and have their first Division I recruiting classes in place. (more)
